A NSFW trailer has been released for Hardcore, an upcoming action film told completely from a first-person point of view.
The film tells of You, yes, you – the viewer, a man brought back to life by his wife (Haley Bennett). Not long after finding out that you are now a cyborg, the facility you are in is attacked and your wife is eventually kidnapped. A psychotic megalomaniac (Danila Kozlovsky) with telekinetic powers has her. Ass-kicking ensues.
The first-person thing isn’t exactly a brand new thing – Gaspar Noé’s Into the Void, for example, played well with the format, but the kinetic action on display here looks crazy, intense, comic and truly entertaining. It remains to be seen if it can hold out for 90 minutes or if it gets old quickly. Fingers crossed this works.
Hardcore, also starring Sharlto Copley, has just screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Expect release dates to be announced soon.
Synopsis for Hardcore:
You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry and congratulations, you’re now a cyborg.
5 minutes later, your wife has been kidnapped and you should probably go get her back. Who’s got her? His name’s Akan (Danila Kozlovsky), he’s just a psychotic megalomaniac with telekinetic powers, and a never-ending army of mercenaries. You’re also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, Russia and everyone wants you dead. Everyone, except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). He might be on your side. Good luck Henry. You’re very much likely to need it.
