Cameras have officially started rolling on the upcoming Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw.

The film will be branching away from the “family” we’ve been following thus far and will instead follow fan fave characters Hobbs and Shaw, played by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham respectively.

To mark the first day of production, Statham took to Instagram to share an image of himself and director David Leitch standing alongside one of the many expensive vehicles you can expect are being used in the franchise’s ninth entry. NINTH.

“Day 1 on “Hobbs & Shaw” movie,” Statham captioned the image. “Getting the instructions from an old pal and the Director of our film @davidmleitch. Massive respect to you Dave for the incredible vision and scope you have planned for this movie. There are big things to come!”

“My partner in heavy crime & fun @jasonstatham is lookin’ like $1million bucks and holdin’ it all down,” Johnson posted alongside the same image on his Instagram account. “Our visionary & bad ass director @davidmleitch (just directed Deadpool2) at the helm and ready to evolve the franchise in exciting and fresh new ways.”

Johnson revealed that he’ll be heading to the London set in two weeks. The hard-working wrestler turned media superstar has been filming Disney’s Jungle Cruise with Emily Blunt.

Director Leitch, who’s coming off two back-to-back action pics Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2, the latter of which earned a very healthy $US734.1 million worldwide from a $US100 million budget, also shared in image to mark the start of production… and the NFL season.

Idris Elba will be playing the villain and Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) has been cast as an MI-5 agent – who’s also Shaw’s sister.

Hobbs and Shaw has been scheduled for Australian release on 1 August 2019 and US release on 2 August 2019.
