Meet your new Sherlock Holmes: Will Ferrell.
The first trailer has arrived for Holmes and Watson, a comedic take on the classic detective character, reuniting Step Brothers and Talladega Nights stars Ferrell and John C. Reilly. The plot finds the pair attempting to save the Queen of England by solving a time-sensitive case masterminded by the villainous Moriarty, played by Ralph Fiennes.
It looks relatively amiable, although – at least for this writer – the humour shown off in the trailer leans more to the meh side. “No shit, Sherlock” – cringe. We’ll see though, since Ferrell and Reilly have proven to be an amusing comedic due and the premise should allow for some fun antics.
Ferrell rejoins writer-director Etan Cohen here, known for co-writing and directing Get Hard, and for a number of comedic writing credits that include Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder and Men in Black 3.
Holmes and Watson, also starring Rebecca Hall, Rob Brydon, Kelly Macdonald, Lauren Lapkus, and Hugh Laurie, will be hitting US cinemas on December 21 and arrives in Australia on December 26.
