Based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon takes us back in time, 200 years before the events of GoT. The story focuses on House Targaryen, which once ruled Westeros, but, as we’ll see, found themselves on rocky ground in the lead up to the Targaryen civil war, known as “Dance of the Dragons.”
The teaser offers up a few enticing snippets and provides a look at a number of the cast members, including Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon aka “The Sea Snake,” among others. For character descriptions, head right HERE. And, of course, dragons are teased at as well (although, we do get a glimpse at the skull of one – perhaps that of Balerion the Black Dread?).
Martin and Ryan Condal (Colony, Hercules) serve as co-creators on the series, which sure has some big shoes to fill following the hit that was its predecessor. GoT was, for the most part, quite the show, capturing a massive worldwide audience and basically taking over pop culture every season. Alas, it didn’t quite nail the landing, but there’s no denying the impact the series had. No pressure, then.
House of the Dragon, which will also star Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, and Fabien Frankel, among others, will begin sometime in 2022. Stay tuned for more as it nears.
