Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut has added Idris Elba.
Elba has joined the cast of Molly’s Game, the first feature to be directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, Moneyball, Steve Jobs).
Jessica Chastain is set to lead Molly’s Game, which tells the true story of Molly Bloom, a world-class skier who went from Olympic hopeful to the manager of one of the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker games. 17 FBI agents brought an end to Bloom’s hugely profitable gambling ring, which reportedly made her up to $4 million per year during its peak.
“Working with Aaron once again has been truly rewarding, and we’re thrilled to have Jessica and Idris, two of the most talented actors in film today, coming on board,” producer Mark Gordon (Saving Private Ryan, Steve Jobs) said in a statement. “With the addition of Sierra/Affinity through our partnership with eOne, we have a best in class team in place to bring Molly Bloom’s riveting story to audiences.”
Sorkin has also penned the screenplay for Molly’s Game, an adaptation of Molly Bloom’s memoir.
“The casting of Jessica and Idris in the two lead roles is any filmmaker’s dream come true,” Sorkin added. “They’re two of the greatest actors of their generation, paired for the first time, and their chemistry will be electric.”
There’s plenty in the pipeline for Elba, including Star Trek Beyond and voice work in Finding Dory. There’s also the long-awaited big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, which will co-star Matthew McConaughey and is set for U.S. release on February 17, 2017.
