The teaser trailer has been released for upcoming Netflix series Inventing Anna, the latest from series hit-maker Shonda Rhimes, the Scandal creator and Bridgerton executive producer who has a big Netflix deal with her company Shondaland.
Inventing Anna is based on the true story of Anna Sorokin (played by Ozark star Julia Garner), the German Russian-born fraudster who, between 2013 and 2017, pretended to be a wealthy German heiress going by the name Sanna Delvey. Among her targets: New York’s social scene, where she quickly became an Instagram sensation and stole the hearts and, eventually, the money of many.
Anna Chlumsky (Veep, My Girl) plays Vivian, a journalist with a lot to prove who gets more than she bargained for when she begins investigating the case of this con artist.
As Netflix’s synopsis reads: “But is Anna New York’s biggest con woman or is she simply the new portrait of the American dream? Anna and the reporter form a dark, funny love-hate bond as Anna awaits trial and our reporter fights the clock to answer the biggest question in NYC: who is Anna Delvey?”
Rhimes created the series, inspired by the New York Magazine article “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” by Jessica Pressler, whom the character of Vivian is loosely based on. It’s a fascinating read, which you can check out for yourself, in full, right HERE. The Devil Wears Prada helmer David Frankel directs the first two episodes.
Inventing Anna, also starring Anna Chlumsky, Katie Lowes, Laverne Cox, Alexis Floyd, Arian Moayed, Anders Holm, and Anna Deavere Smith, among others, will be streaming on Netflix from February 11th, 2022.
