“At least when you’re screaming at each other about Trump, it’s something of international importance.”

So says Guardians of the Galaxy helmer James Gunn, who decided to hit Twitter to address the long-raging feud between fans of comic/film studios Marvel and DC.

The comic world has long seen certain fans of either side claiming that theirs holds more quality over the other, whether it be individual superheroes and their respective powers, or simply comic plot arcs. Unsurprisingly, the film universes are now much cause for fanboy/girl clashing.

Outspoken filmmaker Gunn, who directed/co-wrote Guardians of the Galaxy and directed/wrote the sequel released earlier this year, put forth his two cents about the arguments in a series of tweets. He mentioned Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as one particular title that is often thrown around during these tireless debates.

“Every time I mention anything DC, no matter what, my feed becomes an endless screaming match about BvS,” Gunn wrote. “You guys are never going to convince each other – it’s just a bunch of wasted energy.”

The filmmaker said that the fans of both Marvel and DC properties “have way more in common with each other” than they do with the rest of the world and stressed both sides need to “stop engaging in that way”.

Gunn is currently readying Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is an executive on Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, and is also on board as exec producer/writer on Amazon Studios’ TV series reboot of Starsky & Hutch.
