James Gunn Says Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Will Be “More Emotional”

Prior to release, Guardians of the Galaxy was considered to be a bit of a gamble from Marvel. Rave reviews and $774 million-plus later, well, to quote ourselves, it all seems so obvious now.

Any word on the sequel is understandably highly coveted, and Guardians director and co-writer James Gunn has revealed that things are going to be getting a little deep in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

“I think it’s a more emotional movie,” Gunn told the folks over at Collider during the Saturn Awards.

“It’s both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters.”

There were some hints throughout the first film that Peter Quill’s father could be playing a major part in the unfolding plot. Cue confirmation…kind of.

“We get to learn a lot about fathers in the second movie, and I think we focus a lot on that,” Gunn said.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which still has a hidden supposed post-colon subtitle (#NotEventheTitle), is set for U.S. release on May 5, 2017
