Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac, who previously starred together in the 2014 crime-drama A Most Violent Year, will be reuniting in an upcoming HBO limited series titled Scenes from a Marriage.

Chastain will be replacing Oscar winner Michelle Williams, who was forced to exit the role over scheduling issues. The project has been circling a start since 2017.

The series will be an adaptation of the 1973 Swedish mini-series of the same name, written and directed by the legendary Ingmar Bergman and starring Liv Ullmann and Erland Josephson. As reported by Deadline, the plot will depict “love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple,” to be played by Isaac and Chastain.

The limited series will be exec produced, written and directed by Hagai Levi, co-creator of Showtime series The Affair. Isaac and Chastain will also on board as executive producers.

Chastain will next be seen in action-thriller The 355. Isaac’s pipeline includes Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune and Paul Schrader thriller The Card Counter.
