Joaquin Phoenix to Star in Next Film from ‘Hereditary’ & ‘Midsommar’ Director Ari Aster

Ari Aster, writer-director of striking films Hereditary and Midsommar, has Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix lined up for his next feature.

Phoenix will be leading the cast of Disappointment Blvd., which will find Aster reteaming with Hereditary producer and US distributor A24. There’s been talk since last year that Phoenix may be on board Aster’s next film, but the actor had not signed on until now.

As reported by Deadline, while the plot details are still unknown, the Aster-written film is to be “an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.” Intriguing.

Phoenix has long had a reputation for being an actor that chooses his projects carefully, so it certainly bodes well for Aster that the actor – who can probably take his pick from quite the offer list at this point – chose Disappointment Blvd. Aster has only had two features thus far, but both featured all-in performances from their leads; Toni Collette, as I previously said on YouTube, was all-out snubbed by the Oscars for Hereditary and Florence Pugh also gave her all in Midsommar. You can only imagine what Phoenix will go for here.

Before we see what Phoenix delivers with Aster, we’ll see the Joker actor in C’mon C’mon, a 2019-shot drama from Beginners and 20th Century Women director Mike Mills. Phoenix is also set to play Napoleon in Kitbag, an epic from Ridley Scott that landed at Apple.
