John Krasinski is set to play classic Tom Clancy character Jack Ryan in a television series.
Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert in the American iteration of The Office, has signed on to lead Jack Ryan, a television series currently set up at Amazon.
Deadline broke the news, reporting that Amazon acquired Jack Ryan in a competitive situation, landing a project with a series commitment and a potential straight-to-series order. The package comes backed by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Skydance Media, Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and Lost writer Graham Roland.
Cuse and Roland are behind the idea of this Jack Ryan TV series, which won’t be based off any particular Tom Clancy novel. Deadline describes the series as “a new contemporary take on the character in his prime as a CIA analyst/operative using the novels as source material.”
Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine have all previously played the character of Jack Ryan, a former U.S. marine that joins the CIA and – in the books – eventually becomes the U.S. President.
The series will reunite Krasinski with Bay, following last year’s war drama 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.
