Yeah, we’re thinking he’s back. Again.
Keanu Reeves will return as the one-man army that is John Wick in the action franchise’s third film, John Wick: Chapter 3, which has been scheduled to hit US cinemas on May 17, 2019.
Spoilers for Chapter 2 ahead.
The fantastic sequel (we loved it) finished with quiet the cliffhanger, and it appears that the next film will be continuing on right from where we left off. According to a promotional synopsis that Lionsgate has released at CinemaCon…
“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”

So yes, Wick will be going up against wave after wave of enemies as he attempts to make it out of NYC alive. You can imagine it’s going to be insane.
According to helmer Chad Stahelski, who was co-director on John Wick and director on Chapter 2, the third film will be offering up more world building as opposed to simply more bang for buck.
“We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world,” Stahelski said last year. “I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Number Two, that I’d like to go back to on [chapter three] and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York.”
Stahelski last year also told The Independent that the film will give us a little more of Wick’s backstory.
“We’re going to put in something about where John comes from, and where he wants to go. I don’t want to say too much more, but it will be a nice completion to Mr Wick’s journey.”
John Wick: Chapter 3 started filming in New York this week, as evidenced by clear-way signs put up for production:

According to On Location Vacations, filming locations will also include Morocco, Spain, Russia, and possibly Tokyo.
Apart from the third film in the franchise, the Wick universe will also be expanding with a series titled The Continental, which will tell of the inner workings of the titular refuge for assassins. Reeves is attached as executive producer and is also expected to appear, although he won’t be the show’s star.
