‘Johnny English Strikes Again’ Trailer: Rowan Atkinson’s Inept Agent Comes Out of Retirement

Universal Pictures

Rowan Atkinson is back as inept MI7 agent Johnny English in the franchise’s third film.

Johnny English Strikes Again finds our fumbling hero coming out of retirement when a cyber-attack reveals the identity of all of the active undercover agents in Britain.

It looks… well, if you have been a big fan of the franchise so far then perhaps you’ll feel right at home with this third entry. Atkinson hasn’t given us his Bean-style comedy on the big screen in quiet a while, so it’ll be interesting to see whether the crowds are still keen. The first film in this series was a hit, pulling $US160.5 million from a budget of $US40 million. Johnny English Reborn saw a very slight drop: $US160 million from a budget of $US45 million.

This marks the first big-screen feature for television director David Kerr (Inside No. 9, Fresh Meat). And if you’re going to spoof James Bond movies, why not get a writer that’s well versed in that universe? The film is written by Robert Wade, who has penned six Bond films, including Casino Royale and Skyfall.

Emma Thompson and Olga Kurylenko co-star in Johnny English Strikes Again, which arrives in Australia on September 20.
