Kim Basinger is Christian Grey’s Ex-Lover in ‘Fifty Shades Darker’

Academy Award-winner Kim Basinger has joined the cast of the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, Fifty Shades Darker.

It was just a few years ago when the Fifty Shades books hit the shelves and brought sex positivity and BDSM to the mainstream. During the initial buzz, more people than ever were buying a ring gag, handcuffs, and various other equipment that would help them spice up their sex life. They were such a big hit that it’s no surprise that the film adaptations were announced and the first film proved to be a big hit. And now, news is beginning to spread regarding the second film.

As per Variety, Basinger has been cast as Elena Lincoln, the business partner and former love of Christian Grey, who will once again be played by Jamie Dornan. Dakota Jonson is also returning as Anastasia Steele. Of course, there will also be the return of some very raunchy scenes, some of which look like they belong on

The sequel will see Christian continue to wrestle with his inner demons, while Anastasia is pushed to confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her. Basinger’s Lincoln, teased at in the first film, is one of those women. She’s a key character in the book, having played a hand in Christian’s acquisition of the BDSM lifestyle. Glengarry Glen Ross director James Foley, who’s also been at the helm of 12 House of Cards episodes, will be directing both Fifty Shades Darker and the third film in the trilogy, Fifty Shades Freed. The plan is that both film’s will be made back-to-back.

Director Sam Taylor-Johnson and screenwriter Kelly Marcel both opted to leave the franchise after reported creative differences during the first film. Marcel herself has said that she won’t see the movie.

Fifty Shades Darker is currently lined up for U.S. release on February 10, 2017 and Fifty Shades Freed is scheduled of release on February 9, 2018.
