Take a look at the new trailer released for Leatherface, the next chapter in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise that began in 1974.
The film offers up an origin story for our titular serial killer, as a teenage Leatherface kidnaps a young nurse, escapes a mental asylum with three other inmates, and heads on a road trip from hell with a revenge-seeking cop (Stephen Dorff) on his tail.
This new trailer doesn’t ram home the violence as hard as that first red band look, but it’s certainly gritty nevertheless. It’s an interesting idea to place more of a spotlight on his mother, Verna Sawyer, and placing Lili Taylor in the role is great casting. Also, having Leatherface on the run instead of always being on the hunt could be an inspired plot point. We’ll see.
Leatherface, directed by Inside helmers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, will be receiving a limited U.S. theatrical run and full VOD release on October 20.
