Sony has dropped a new “restricted trailer” for Life, the upcoming sci-fi thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson.

If there’s one qualm that seems to popping up in a number of comments sections surrounding this trailer, it’s the fact that we’ve seen this type of thing play out one too many times before. Indeed, the influences are very clear, from Alien to The Thing to The Blob, but there’s always a chance that this could still be a very effective pic. Hopefully.

The new trailer throws in a few more cuss words (hence, the ‘red band’ thing) and gives up some energetic new tidbits. It’s hard to tell without having seeing the film, but there’s a worry that the trailer may be giving away too much, particularly as a certain character’s pod nears Earth.

The film is directed by Daniel Espinosa, know for Easy Money and the Reynolds and Denzel Washington-starring thriller Safe House. On writing duties are Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Life, also starring Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare and Hiroyuki Sanada, will arrive in Australia on March 23 and opens in the US on March 24.

Synopsis for Life:

Life is a terrifying sci-fi thriller about a team of scientists aboard the International Space Station whose mission of discovery turns to one of primal fear when they find a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth.
