Lizzy Caplan is Joining Channing Tatum in the ‘Gambit’ Movie

Yes, not only is the long-gestating Channing Tatum-starring Gambit movie indeed happening, it’s coming with actress Lizzy Caplan in a lead role.

The Masters of Sex star has entered talks to take on the female lead in 20th Century Fox’s Gambit, which Tatum has been attached to for quite sometime. No details of the role have been revealed.

French actress Léa Seydoux was offered the part of Bella Donna Boudreaux, aka Bella, in August of 2015. There’s been no word since, although it’s likely Seydoux is no longer attached. Could Caplan be taking the role?

In the comics, Bella was Gambit’s childhood friend and later married him in arrangement meant to bring their respective Guilds together. Bella’s brother, Julien, challenged Gambit to a fight to the death after the wedding. Gambit won, and was exiled from New Orleans as a result. Bella eventually became the head of the Assassins Guild.

Variety broke the news of Caplan’s casting, reporting that the X-Men spinoff movie is aiming for a US release on February 14, 2019. Director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Ring, Rango) is at the helm.

This project’s taken quite a while to get off the ground. Tatum’s been circling the character since 2014 and director Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) came and went.
