The first trailer has been released for Logan, Hugh Jackman’s final outing as the clawed mutant, Wolverine.

Right off the bat, it’s surprising how emotional this is. Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” plays out while we’re introduced to a disheveled, aged Logan in a world where  most mutants have apparently died. Then there’s Charles Xavier, who appears to be on his way out. Then there’s a young X-23 – likely being set up as Wolverine’s successor, a good amount of violent action, and the realisation that we’re about to say goodbye to a huge cinematic chapter. One thing is becoming clear: this could be one hell of a goodbye.

Directed by James Mangold, who, by the way, directed the Joaquin Phoenix-starring Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.

Logan, also starring Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen, will be hitting Aussie cinemas on March 2 and US cinemas on March 3.

Also, check out the film’s UK trailer, which offers up a decidedly red band moment towards the end:
