Maika Monroe, the breakout actress who has impressed with roles in successful indie fare such as The Guest and It Follows, has just scored a lead role in Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2.
Returning director Emmerich hit Twitter to reveal the casting news:
I have another addition to announce. The beautiful & talented Maika Monroe is officially signed on 2 the Independence Day Sequel!

Monroe will be starring opposite Jessie Usher, who is set to play the son of Will Smith’s Steven Hiller from the first film, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and returning cast members Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox and Judd Hirsch.
THR reports that Monroe “will play the daughter of the president of the United States, played by Pullman. She also would be the love interest of Hemsworth’s character.”
Mae Whitman played Patricia Whitmore in the original.
Independence Day 2 is set to enter production in May, with a plan to hit U.S. cinemas on June 24, 2016.
