Check out the trailer that’s arrived for upcoming Russian superhero film Major Grom and the Plague Doctor.
Based on the Russian comic book series from Bubble Comics, the film follows a cop (played by Tikhon Zhiznevskiy) as he looks into the rise of a flame thrower-carrying masked vigilante taking out wealthy criminals who have evaded justice. This hero doesn’t hold back, essentially burning these baddies alive.
The trailer is solid, showcasing a pretty slick-looking superhero film, and a potential franchise-starter that could have Major Grom and perhaps Plague Doctor on other adventures. The film’s reportedly budgeted at around $US10 million, which is sizeable for a Russian production. It’s been a while since we had a fun mainstream blockbuster-esque film from Russia that sparked up international success. I was a big fan of Timur Bekmambetov’s 2004 Russian fantasy-action film Night Watch and its 2006 sequel Day Watch, so perhaps take a look at those if you’re keen to see more genre fare from the word’s largest country .
Directed by Oleg Trofim (Ice), the film is in the process of acquiring international sales from Bubble Studios.
