The film has Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle, Peaky Blinders, The Mummy) playing Madison, a woman who is paralysed by shocking visions of grisly murders. To make her torment worse, she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.
It’s a striking trailer, suggesting we could be in for a creepy, stylish, highly unsettling ride from Wan, who took a bit of a break from horror over the last few years to deliver big studio pictures Furious 7 and Aquaman. Wan directs from a screenplay by Akella Cooper (The 100, Luke Cage, Hell Fest), who came up with the original story with Wan and Ingrid Bisu.
Malignant, also starring Maddie Hasson, George Young, Michole Briana White, and Jacqueline McKenzie, will be in Australian cinemas on September 9th. In the US, the film hits both cinemas and HBO Max on September 10th.
