‘Mandy’ Trailer: This Bloody Nicolas Cage Movie Actually Looks Awesome

Madman Films

It’s no secret that Nicolas Cage has been churning out mediocre to completely poor films in the last few years, but it looks like Mandy is about to slaughter that streak with a chainsaw.

Check out the trailer for Mandy, a horror-thriller-fantasy-drama (or something like that) set in the primal wilderness of 1983. Cage plays Red Miller, who heads on a path of vengeance when the love of his life is taken by a religious sect.

The reviews from the Sundance premiere and the film’s subsequent festivals have been raving about this bizarre, gruesome picture, which marks the sophomore effort for Italian-Canadian filmmaker Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow). It looks like an in-your-face, artistic, and yet recognisably pulpy revenge film, and word is that Cage is downright brilliant in it. It also has one of the last works by acclaimed late composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (Arrival, Sicario, The Theory of Everything). Yeah, we can’t wait.

Mandy, also starring Andrea Riseborough, Linus Roache, Ned Dennehy, Olwen Fouéré, Richard Brake and Bill Duke, will be hitting US cinemas on September 14. Madman Films will be release the film in Australia, although no domestic release date has been announced as yet.

Official synopsis for Mandy:
