Martin Freeman’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Character Revealed

There hasn’t been much to go on since it was announced that Martin Freeman would have a part to play in Marvel‘s upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Quiet, that is, until now.

An Empire magazine feature has revealed that the Sherlock and Hobbit actor will be playing Everett Ross.

As those familiar with the character’s various appearances in the comics would know, Everett has been an employee of the U.S. State Department, escorting foreign diplomats on American soil. A key arc for Everett involves Black Panther, who he was assigned to escort during the Wakanda ruler’s visit to New York City.

Empire dropped an exclusive image of Freeman as Everett, working for the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre, standing alongside Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter/Agent 13. The SWAT team standing behind them suggests they may be in Germany. As the titular conflict escalates, the JCTC will no doubt have an important role to play.

Captain America: Civil War, with a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Elizabeth Olsen, Scarlett Johannson and Anthony Mackie, among many others, opens in Australia on April 29 and in the U.S. on May 6.
