Paramount has released the first Men, Women & Children trailer, giving us an interesting look at the latest film from director Jason Reitman (Thank You for Smoking, Juno, Up in the Air). Featuring an all-star cast, which includes Adam Sandler, Jennifer Garner, Ansel Elgort, Judy Greer, Dean Norris, Rosemarie DeWitt and Emma Thompson, this drama follows a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate how the internet has changed their lives. Not a word is said in this trailer, setting its tone with emotion-filled shots and technology-based texts between characters. In a time where so much time in our lives is spent online, this could pack a wallop. Reitman’s a great filmmaker, as Juno and Up in the Air showed, but he’s overdue for an impressive outing. His last two films, Young Adult and Labor Day, were decent, but failed to make much of a mark. Men, Women & Children will have its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.
Official synopsis for Men, Women & Children:
Men, Women and Children follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose – some tragic, some hopeful – as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers.
