‘Mr. Mayor’ Trailer: Ted Danson Becomes the Head of L.A. in Tina Fey-Created Comedy Series

Ted Danson has his next series on the way following The Good Place and Curb Your Enthusiasm. This time he’s taking on the lead role in Mr. Mayor, a new comedy created by Tina Fey.

A new trailer has arrived for the upcoming sitcom, which has Danson playing  a retired businessman who runs for mayor of Los Angeles to prove he’s “still got it.” He actually wins, leaving him left to figure out what he stands for, gain the respect of his biggest critic (Holly Hunter) and connect with his teenage daughter, all while trying to get anything right for the city.

There’s certainly confidence that comes with Fey on board as creator, and furthermore, she’s working here with her Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt co-creator Robert Carlock. Interestingly, Fey was looking to craft Mr. Mayor as a series follow-up to her hit show 30 Rock, with a plan to set it in New York and have Alec Baldwin reprising his role as Jack Donaghy. After Baldwin dropped out, Danson was brought on and with him came the move to Los Angeles.

Mr. Mayor, also starring Bobby Moynihan, Vella Lovell, Mike Cabellon, and Kyla Kenedy, will begin on NBC on January 7th.
