Fox Searchlight has dropped a tense new trailer for My Cousin Rachel, the upcoming period thriller starring Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin.

Based on the book by Daphne Du Maurier, who also wrote the stories behind Alfred Hitchcock films Rebecca and The Birds, My Cousin Rachel tells of an Englishman (Claflin) whose plans of vengeance against the cousin (Rachel) he believes murdered his guardian are thrown out the window when he falls under her spell.

There’s plenty of intrigue and paranoia in the new trailer for the film, which appears to have strong performances by Weisz and Claflin and beautiful cinematography by Mike Eiley (Touching the Void, Nanny McPhee Returns). Looks good.

Written and directed by Roger Michell, whose credits include Notting Hill, Changing Lanes and Morning Glory.

My Cousin Rachel, also starring Holliday Grainger, Iain Glen, Andrew Knott and Poppy Lee Friar, arrives in Australia on June 8 and hits US cinemas on June 9.

A dark romance, MY COUSIN RACHEL tells the story of a young Englishman who plots revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin, believing that she murdered his guardian. But his feelings become complicated as he finds himself falling under the beguiling spell of her charms.
