The planned Disney+ National Treasure series has its cast star.
Up and comer Lisette Alexis (We Need to Do Something, Total Eclipse) has been cast in the lead role, set to play young heroine Alexis, a DREAMer (someone living in the US without official authorization since coming to the country as a minor, although given special immigration status having met certain conditions) on the search for truth about her past and attempting to save a lost Pan-American treasure.
As first reported by Deadline, Alexis will be…
“a Latina whose brilliant and resourceful mind loves a good mystery, and she has a natural talent for solving puzzles. Over the course of the show, Jess will uncover her own buried history, as well as the truth about her parents and her connection to a long-lost treasure.”
Jerry Bruckheimer, producer on the Nicolas Cage National Treasure films, is attached as executive producer here. On board to direct the pilot is Mira Nair (Queen of Katwe, Monsoon Wedding), who’s attached as executive producer. Writing by Rick Muirragui (Suits) and Cormac & Marianne Wibberley, the latter two of whom penned the first film with Jim Kouf. The Wibberleys and Muirragui are also attached as EPs, as is Jon Turteltaub, director of the two films.
Production on the National Treasure series is set to start in early 2022. No release date has been announced.
