Hold on to your mugs… Leatherface is back.

The first trailer has arrived for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the ninth film in the horror-slasher franchise that kicked off with Tobe Hooper’s hugely influential 1974 film. This new entry disregards the previous seven films and serves as a direct sequel to the original, catching up with Leatherface years later as he targets two sisters and their friends after they accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town.

Sarah Yarkin (Fort Salem), Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Jacob Latimore (The Chi) and Nell Hudson (Victoria) play Leatherface’s potential new victims. Interestingly, Olwen Fouéré (Mandy) is playing the  sole survivor of the first film, Sally Hardesty (originally played by Marilyn Burns), who is now after sweet vengeance. Wielding the chainsaw this time around is Mark Burnham, whose credits until now have mostly consisted of indie titles such as Lowlife and Wrong Cops.

The film comes from director David Blue Garcia, making quite a leap into the mainstream following his debut directorial effort, 2018 indie thriller Tejano. Garcia took over directing from the film’s previous helmers, Andy and Ryan Tohill, who left the project one week into production following creative differences with Legendary Entertainment. Chris Thomas Devlin penned the screenplay from a story by Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead (2013) director Fede Alvarez and his longtime collaborator (and Don’t Breathe 2 helmer) Rodo Sayagues.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be hitting Netflix on February 18th, 2022.

Official synopsis for Texas Chainsaw Massacre:

Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson), head to the remote town of Harlow, Texas to start an idealistic new business venture. But their dream soon turns into a waking nightmare when they accidentally disrupt the home of Leatherface, the deranged serial killer whose blood-soaked legacy continues to haunt the area’s residents — including Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), the sole survivor of his infamous 1973 massacre who’s hell-bent on seeking revenge.
