‘Nobody’: Behind the Scenes Featurette Shows Bob Odenkirk Transform Into an Action Star

A behind-the-scenes featurette has arrived for upcoming action film Nobody, which will be something of a change of pace for lead actor Bob Odenkirk.

“I started as a comedy writer in this business, so no exercise at all,” says the Better Call Saul star, here playing a seemingly peaceful dad who’s pushed to revisit his violent past. “I knew that this was something that would be challenging for me, personally.”

Indeed, as the behind-the-scenes footage below shows, the actor had to get in shape for a highly physical role that would also involve combat and weapons training.

“We started in November 2017,” says fight coordinator and cast trainer Daniel Bernhardt, who’s been involved in stunt work on films such as Captain America: Civil War, John Wick: Chapter 2, Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw.  “And he would learn how to punch, kick, throw. And he would not quit.”

At least from the trailer and the footage thus far, it sure looks like Odenkirk could have an unexpected run of action films in his future. Nobody, directed by Hardcore Henry helmer Ilya Naishuller and written by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, hits US cinemas on March 26th and arrives in Australia on April 1st.

Official synopsis for Nobody:

Sometimes the man you don’t notice is the most dangerous of all.

Emmy winner Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, The Post, Nebraska) stars as Hutch Mansell, an underestimated and overlooked dad and husband, taking life’s indignities on the chin and never pushing back. A nobody.

When two thieves break into his suburban home one night, Hutch declines to defend himself or his family, hoping to prevent serious violence. His teenage son, Blake (Gage Munroe, The Shack), is disappointed in him and his wife, Becca (Connie Nielsen, Wonder Woman), seems to pull only further away.

The aftermath of the incident strikes a match to Hutch’s long-simmering rage, triggering dormant instincts and propelling him on a brutal path that will surface dark secrets and lethal skills. In a barrage of fists, gunfire and squealing tires, Hutch must save his family from a dangerous adversary (famed Russian actor Aleksey Serebryakov, Amazon’s McMafia)—and ensure that he will never be underestimated as a nobody again.
