Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Only the Brave (fka Granite Mountain Hotshots), the upcoming drama that tells of the heroic firefighters who fought the wild flames in Arizona in June 2013.
19 members of real-life elite firefighting unit Granite Mountain Hotshots lost their lives fighting this natural disaster, the most firefighters lost in the U.S. since September 11.
Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, James Badge Dale, Taylor Kitsch and Jennifer Connelly are among the impressive line-up, working under the direction of Tron: Legacy and Oblivion helmer Joseph Kosinski. Behind the screenplay are Ken Nolan (Blackhawk Down) and Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle).
It’s a solid first trailer, exhibiting strong characterisation and some awe-inspiring disaster visuals. It seems to be in the vein of Peter Berg’s unofficial true story trilogy – Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, Patriots Day – which showcased the resolve of people in deadly situations. This one could pack a punch.
Only the Brave opens in the U.S. on October 20 and arrives in Australia on November 30.
