Warner Bros. has unveiled a new trailer for Pan, the new take on J.M. Barrie‘s classic tale.
Young newcomer Levi Miller plays the titular character, who is here whisked away to Neverland from a bleak London orphanage. While finding adventures and taking on baddies in this new land, Pan tries to uncover the secret of the mother that left him at the orphanage and comes head to head with ruthless pirate Black Beard (Hugh Jackman).
This Comic-Con trailer provides plenty of footage from the film, and drives home that, yes, Hugh Jackman will indeed be a key factor in whether or not this imaginative new version works. There’s a ton of campiness, which is by no means a bad thing, and the cast look to be putting in their all to match the tone. We’ve very intrigued.
Joe Wright (Atonement, Hanna, Anna Karenina) directs from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift).
Pan, also starring Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara, Adeel Akhtar, Taejoo Na, Nonso Anozie, Kathy Burke, Jack Charles, and Amanda Seyfried, will hit U.S. cinemas on October 9.
Official synopsis for Pan:
Peter (Levi Miller) is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. Then one incredible night, Peter is whisked away from the orphanage and spirited off to a fantastical world of pirates, warriors and fairies called Neverland. There, he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage so long ago, and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara) and a new friend named James Hook (Garrett Hedlund), Peter must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) to save Neverland and discover his true destiny—to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan.
