Sony has dropped the first trailer for Passengers, the upcoming sci-fi pic starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt.

Directed by Morten Tyldum, known for the great Norwegian thriller Headhunters and who earned himself a Best Director Oscar nomination with The Imitation Game, Passengers tells the story of two passengers on board a spaceship who are mysteriously awaken 90 years before they reach their destination. They begin to fall for each other, while threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.

The first trailer for this much talked-about sci-fi pic is certainly intriguing, although it’s careful to keep the plot quite guarded. Why are they awake? What’s going on with the ship? Why are they so good looking?

Passengers, written by Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts, who’s also attached to Marvel’s Doctor Strange and Universal’s The Mummy, will hit the U.S. on December 21 and arrives in Australia on January 1, 2017.

Synopsis for Passengers:

The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim and Aurora try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.
