If a movie’s been held off from release for years, perhaps it may be best to approach tentatively.
Take a look at the trailer for Patient Zero, a “pandemic thriller” that was filmed in 2015, eventually went on be scheduled for a Video On Demand release, and is now set to get a digital and limited theatrical release.
A viral super-strain’s taken over, turning people into… well, zombies. Matt Smith plays a man who has been bitten, but hasn’t turned, leaving him with the ability to communicate with the infected. Enter Stanley Tucci as the titular patient, showcasing an evolution in the strain.
The trailer’s decently put together, but there’s a bit of a cheapy vibe going on here that’s hard to shake. Still, there could be some thrills here and there. We’ll see.
Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky, whose fantastic 2007 film The Counterfeiters won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, directs from a screenplay by Mike Le (Amnesiac, Dark Summer).
Patient Zero, also starring Natalie Dormer, Agyness Deyn and Clive Standen, will get a digital release on August 14 and opens in limited US cinemas on September 14.
