Sony has dropped a new trailer for Peter Rabbit, the upcoming feature adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s classic tale.
James Corden voices the titular rabbit, who finds himself in a war with new-guy-on-the-block Mr. McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson). McGregor, you see, hates animals being on his property, and to make matters worse, he’s tricking warm-hearted animal lover Bea (Rose Byrne) into falling for him. Cue animal abuse. Okay, not really, and it’s all done in light-hearted manner, but it certainly reminds of those childhood films you look back on when you’re older with troubling new light.
Digression aside, this could be a good bit of fun. Gleeson appears to be having a good time in this quirky, slapstick-driven villain role and it’s always nice to have Byrne on screen. And there’s a decent voice cast too, including Margot Robbie, Daisy Ridley, and Elizabeth Debicki. Hopefully director/co-writer Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits) can deliver a fun family pic here.
Peter Rabbit opens in the US on February 9 and arrives in Australia on March 22, 2018.
Official synopsis for Peter Rabbbit:
Peter Rabbit, the mischievous and adventurous hero who has captivated generations of readers, now takes on the starring role of his own irreverent, contemporary comedy with attitude. In the film, Peter’s feud with Mr. McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) escalates to greater heights than ever before as they rival for the affections of the warm-hearted animal lover who lives next door (Rose Byrne). James Corden voices the character of Peter with playful spirit and wild charm, with Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki, and Daisy Ridley performing the voice roles of the triplets, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail.
