Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to pen The Lego Movie sequel for Warner Bros.
Deadline broke the news, stating that though Lord and Miller – who wrote and directed the first film – are in as writers, there’s no word on whether or not they’re going to be back directing.
The Lego Movie brought in over $468 million in worldwide box-office receipts on a budget of $60 million, so WB must be keen to keep the successful ingredients as similar as possible for the second round.
Lego Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay was thought to be directing the sequel, but he will instead be directing WB’s Lego Batman movie spinoff, which will have Will Arnett returning to voice the much-loved character.
Apart from writing the sequel to this growing franchise, Lord and Miller are executive producing a Will Forte-starring comedy series titled Last Man on Earth. That series is part of the duo’s development deal at 20th Century Fox Television.
