Renny Harlin May Direct New Jackie Chan Film

Upcoming action adventure film Skiptrace might have a new director at the helm. Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger) has been in talks to direct the film starring Jackie Chan and Seann William Scott.

Harlin would replace Sam Fell (Flushed Away, Paranorman), who was going to make his live-action debut with the film. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the project has changed hands since Fell backed out. China’s Talent International Film Company and Dasym Entertainment are now producing Skiptrace after Exclusive Media disintegrated.

Jackie Chan developed the premise, which centres on a good cop (Chan) and his niece (Fan Bingbing). When his niece gets into serious trouble with a crime syndicate, he must track down the only man who can help, a fast-talking American gambler (Scott).

Jackie Chan, Esmond Ren, Charlie Coker, Damien Saccani and David Gerson will also assist in producing the film.

Sales company Bloom, run by Alex Walton and Ken Kao, is currently handling sales of the project at Cannes.

Production on the action-comedy is scheduled to begin in August this year.

  1. Okay, so Harlin hasn’t done anything even remotely interesting since Deep Blue Sea, and Jackie Chan’s U.S. based resume is…well, crap. Pass on this.
