New ‘Rocketman’ Trailer Shows Off a Fantastical Elton John Biopic

Paramount Pictures

A new trailer has arrived for Rocketman, the upcoming Elton John biopic starring Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Robin Hood).

Directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Dexter Fletcher, who finished directing recent Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired, Rocketman follows Elton’s rise from a shy piano prodigy to becoming an international superstar. Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot) plays Elton’s longtime lyricist and writing partner Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Bodyguard) is Elton’s first manager, John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World) plays Elton’s mother, Sheila Farebrother.

The fantastical elements could mark a nice point of difference from the generic rise-to-fame angle employed by many music biopics – aforementioned Queen movie included.  It’s also nice to see Egerton getting a chance to showcase his acting talents and his singing prowess; yes, that’s really him singing in the film (watch him doing so right HERE). We’re liking what we see so far. Here’s hoping.

Rocketman will arrives in Australia on May 30 and opens in the US on May 31.
