Scarlett Johansson & Chris Evans to Star in High-Concept Action Adventure ‘Ghosted’

Marvel Studios

MCU stars Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans will be reuniting in Ghosted, a high-concept romantic action adventure set up at Apple Studios.

The two stars have entered advanced negotiations to lead the film, which will be directed by Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody (he was brought on to finish the Paul Mercury biopic) helmer Dexter Fletcher. The screenplay comes from Deadpool, Zombieland and Life writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who are also on board to produce.

Deadline broke the news, while THR reported that planned film will be in the vein of 1984 adventure film Romancing the Stone, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. Apart from that, there’s little else to go on regarding plot details.

Ghosted will also be produced by Evans and Skydance figures David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger. Skydance has been on a bit of a roll of late with streamers, producing Chris Pratt-starrer The Tomorrow War and Michael B. Jordan-starrer Without Remorse for Amazon, as well as  upcoming Charlize Theron sequel Old Guard 2 for Netflix.

Apple Studios continues to line up big ones. Ghosted joins an Apple slate that includes Will Smith slave drama Emancipation; Ridley Scott’s Napoleon film Kitbag, with Joaquin Phoenix; and long-awaited Martin Scorsese film Killers of the Flower Moon.

Johansson’s upcoming credits include the still-untitled next film from Wes Anderson and another Apple project, Bride, from Chilean director Sebastián Lelio (Disobedience, A Fantastic Woman).

Evans’ line-up includes Netflix action-thriller The Gray Man, reuniting him with the Russo brothers and also starring Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas; and Disney•Pixar’s Lightyear, which will have Evans voicing the in-universe astronaut who inspired the Buzz Lightyear cartoon and toys.
