On the way to upcoming streaming service (yep, another one) HBO Max is Santa Inc., a Christmas animated series that will feature the voices of Sarah Silverman and Seth Rogen. Oh, and while it’s got Santa, Xmas and animation, it most certainly won’t be for the kiddies.
Silverman will be executive producer on the series and will voice Candy Smalls, the highest-ranking female elf in the North Pole. When the successor to Santa Claus (Rogen) is poached by Amazon on Christmas Eve, Candy goes for her ultimate dream— to become the first woman Santa Claus in the history of Christmas.
An 8-episode order has been handed to the half-hour series, which comes from Shrill co-creator Alexandra Rushfield. Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures is producing as part of their multiplatform partnership with Lionsgate.
Said Suzanna Makkos, executive vice president original comedy and animation: “I have long dreamed of a taking a beloved holiday tradition and adding a feminist agenda and some R rated comedy and when I read this script from Ali, with Seth and Sarah attached to voice, I knew that it was a perfect fit for us at Max.”
HBO Max is gearing up for its U.S. launch on May 27. In Australia, HBO Max content will be available exclusively through Foxtel.
