Seth Rogen, Zach Galifianakis, and Bill Hader are going to be starring together in a space-set comedy.
The three comedic actors will be working together in The Something, a comedy following a group of astronauts that have been stuck in space for years, until one day they come across another ship.
According to THR, Rodney Rothman, an ex-head writer for Late Show with David Letterman whose screenwriting credits include 22 Jump Street and Grudge Match, has penned The Something and will be making his directorial debut with the comedy. Rogen is also attached as producer alongside fellow Point Grey Pictures partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, who have had a string of hits with their banner, producing 50/50, This Is the End and Bad Neighbours.
This one’s been circling a start for a while now, as evidenced by reports a couple of years ago that Rose Byrne was attached to the film as a love interest. There’s no word as to whether or not she’s still officially on board, although the film’s IMDB page still lists her as a cast member. If she is, could the plot have something to do with Rogen, Galifianakis, and Hader vying for the attention of the only woman around? That’s just a guess, but it’s possible.
Rogen, Galifianakis, and Hader certainly have their fans, and a film with the three of them and a simple yet out-there concept like this could be a recipe for success. It remains to be seen if Rothman can deliver as director, considering The Something sounds like a film that would combine both character-driven moments in tight quarters and special effects-driven scenarios. Either way, having this trio in front of the camera can only help.
