Marvel Studios has unveiled a big new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the upcoming MCU chapter introducing the superhero also known as the Master of Kung Fu to the screen.

Kim’s Convenience star Simu Liu enters the Marvel realm as Shang-Chi, a young man who is forced to confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organisation. The cast includes Tony Leung as Wensu, Shang-Chi’s father, the leader of the Ten Rings, and the real Mandarin; Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy; Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan; as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng.

It’s another promising look at what could be quite an exciting Marvel pic, with what should be a ton of kick-ass action, strong characterisation and smoothly crafted cultural expansion (a la Black Panther). Check out the trailer below, and keep an eye out for Wong (Benedict Wong, who’s reprising his Doctor Strange role here) taking on Abomination – yes, back in the MCU after taking on Edward Norton’s Hulk in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.

The film – mostly shot in Sydney, by the way – is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, whose credits include Just MercyShort Term 12 and The Glass Castle. The screenplay comes from Cretton, Wonder Woman 1984 and Mortal Kombat co-writer Dave Callaham, and Just Mercy co-writer Andrew Lanham.

Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings opens in Australian cinemas on September 2nd and US cinemas on September 3rd.
