Stop Everything: The ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Trailer Has Finally Arrived

Sony Pictures

“What just happened?!”

So says Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker during a pivotal moment in the first trailer to arrive for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Yes, after what feels like ages of fans bombarding Sony and Marvel with demands to drop the trailer, it’s finally been officially released – and around a day after it was leaked, of course.

The new Spidey adventure follows on the events of Spider-Man: Far from Home, which culminated (spoilers if you haven’t seen that one) in the webslinger’s real identity being revealed to the world. The pressures of everyone knowing his heroic secret proves too much for Parker, who decides to get the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to trigger a spell that would stop Mysterio’s reveal from ever occurring. Strange, for some reason, agrees, and wouldn’t you know it – “we tampered with the stability of space time.” Yeah… whoopsie!

Portals are opened up into the multiverse and, as the trailer shows, this Spider-Man is going to have his hands quite full as a result. A good amount shown off for a first trailer, including a look at the return of a familiar villain and the teasing of at least two more.

Homecoming and Far from Home director Jon Watts continues on at the helm, with a screenplay from returning writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Exciting stuff ahead! And now we just have to hope that, wherever we live, dreaded lockdowns aren’t in place when the film drops. Spider-Man: No Way Home, also starring Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, Benedict Wong, Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx, among others, will be hitting US cinemas on December 17th and Australian cinemas on December 26th.

Official synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighbourhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.
