The first official teaser trailer has dropped for Wish I Was Here, Zach Braff’s Kickstarter-funded dramedy. It feels like it was just yesterday that Braff started this crowd-funded project, and after 46,520 people donated a whopping $3.1 million towards its aim of $2 million, our first look at the film is here. Wish I Was Here tells the story of Aidan Bloom (Braff), a struggling 35-year-old actor, father and husband, who is trying to find himself. He decides to home school his two children when his father (Mandy Patinkin), who is suffering from an illness, can no longer afford to pay for private education. As Aidan teaches his own children about life, he gradually discovers parts of himself he couldn’t find. This teaser is more of a montage, played out to “Simple Song” by The Shins. The tone is nicely delivered, showing Braff’s fans that this should be right up their alley. We were fans of Braff’s Garden State, so we’ll be in line for this.
Starring Zach Braff, Mandy Patinkin, Kate Hudson, Joey King, Josh Gad, Pierce Gagnon, Ashley Greene, Jim Parsons, and Donald Faison.
Official synopsis for Wish I Was Here:
“Wish I Was Here” is the story of Aidan Bloom (played by me), a struggling actor, father and husband, who at 35 is still trying to find his identity; a purpose for his life. He and his wife are barely getting by financially and Aidan passes his time by fantasizing about being the great futuristic Space-Knight he’d always dreamed he’d be as a little kid.
When his ailing father can no longer afford to pay for private school for his two kids (ages 5 and 12) and the only available public school is on its last legs, Aidan reluctantly agrees to attempt to home-school them.
The result is some funny chaos, until Aidan decides to scrap the traditional academic curriculum and come up with his own. Through teaching them about life his way, Aidan gradually discovers some of the parts of himself he couldn’t find.
