The first trailer has arrived for Tenet, the next film from master filmmaker Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception, Dunkirk).
Ohhhhh yeah. The trailer shows off more than one would expect for a first look at something that’s been kept under wraps for so long. That being said, don’t expect to know exactly what this is about after the exciting footage, which offers up a bit of an Inception vibe.
“Welcome to the afterlife,” lead actor John David Washington’s (Denzel’s son, perhaps best known for Ballers and BlacKkKlansman) character is told. The character undergoes what looks like torturous training to be placed on a mission to save the world. And is there some sort of time travel thing going on here? Perhaps the ability to rewind the clock? The ability to see the future? We can’t wait to find out.
Nolan also wrote the screenplay for this one, with cinematography by Dunkirk and Insterstellar D.O.P. Hoyte Van Hoytema, music by Ludwig Göransson (Black Panther, The Mandalorian), and editing by Jennifer Lame (Marriage Story, Hereditary, Manchester By the Sea). Lame will be an editor change for Nolan, who has worked with Aussie editor Lee Smith since 2005’s Batman Begins.
Tenet, also starring Robert Pattinson, Kenneth Branagh, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, Clémence Poésy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Himesh Patel and Andrew Howard, arrives in Australia on July 16 and hits the US on July 17, 2020.
