The trailer has arrived for The 355, an upcoming action-thriller boasting a cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, and Diane Kruger.
Chastain plays CIA agent Mason “Mace” Brown, who’s forced to put together an international team of female badasses to take down baddies that have acquired a top-secret weapon.
Fan Bingbing, Sebastian Stan and Edgar Ramírez also star in the US-China co-production, which marks the sophomore feature as director for Simon Kinberg (the Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Sherlock Holmes scribe who previously helmed the lacklustre X-Men: Dark Phoenix).
The trailer is serviceable enough, although, apart from that undeniably great cast, there doesn’t seem to be too much placing this apart from what is copy-and-paste formula at this point. Would have been nice to see a standout action sequence teased a little, too. Perhaps I’m being a little too nitpicky and there’s a fun popcorn-muncher in store?
We’ll find out when The 355 hits Australian cinemas on January 14th and US cinemas on January 15th, 2021.
A dream team of formidable female stars come together in a hard-driving original approach to the globe-trotting espionage genre in The 355.
When a top-secret weapon falls into mercenary hands, wild card CIA agent Mason “Mace” Brown will need to join forces with rival badass German agent Marie, former MI6 ally and cutting-edge computer specialist Khadijah, and skilled Colombian psychologist Graciela on a lethal, breakneck mission to retrieve it, while also staying one-step ahead of a mysterious woman, Lin Mi Sheng, who is tracking their every move.
