The new look at the film, dubbed “The Bat and the Cat trailer”, offers up exciting new footage with a focus on Batman/Bruce Wayne’s relationship with Catwoman/Selena Kyle, played by Zoë Kravitz. There’s also plenty of impressive action and a tease of the revelations that lie ahead for our Caped Crusader. “All these years. You lied to me, Alfred,” Wayne tells his butler and mentor, played Andy Serkis.
High expectations for this DC chapter, which continues to look promising with these strong trailers. Visually, the film looks stunning, that horror-thriller tone is perfect, and the cast is great – I’m very keen to see Pattinson’s take on the role. Fingers crossed that director and co-writer Matt Reeves (Dawn of / War for the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield, Let Me In) delivers the goods here, particularly since the plan is for this to also spawn two television series (one set at the Gotham Police Department and one with Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot / Penguin) and a couple of sequels.
The Batman, also starring Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as the GCPD’s James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, and Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Reál, will open in Australian cinemas on March 3rd and U.S. cinemas on March 4th, 2022.
Official synopsis for The Batman:
Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman, striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth, Lt. James Gordon — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.
When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman, Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin, Carmine Falcone, and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.
