The Riddler has been cast in the upcoming Robert Pattinson-starring Batman movie.
Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actor Paul Dano will be taking on the role of Edward Nashton, aka The Riddler, in The Batman. They’ve gone with Edward Nashton as opposed to the character’s other name from the comics; maybe they found “E. Nigma” a little on the nose?
Dano’s casting follows the news that Jonah Hill was no longer circling a villain role in the film; there were some rumours that Hill would be starring as The Riddler or Penguin. Deadline reports that Hill while director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, War for the Planet of the Apes) wanted Hill to play Penguin, Hill was more interested in Riddler. Warner Bros. will reportedly soon be casting Penguin to have a trio of villains, which will include Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman.
Dano’s many credits include standout performances in films such as There Will Be Blood, Love & Mercy, Swiss Army Man, and Prisoners. With Riddler, he’ll be tackling a role previously played by the likes of Jim Carrey in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever and Cory Michael Smith in the Gotham series.
Now we await the casting of Penguin. Who could it be? There are strong whispers going around that Josh Gad could be in line, which sounds like a good fit. Stay tuned.
The Batman will be in Australian cinemas on June 24 and US cinemas on June 25, 2021.
