A tense new trailer has dropped for The Beguiled, the upcoming thriller from writer-director Sofia Coppola (The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette).
Set during the Civil War, The Beguiled tells of what unfolds when an injured enemy soldier (Colin Farrell) is taken in by the young women at a Southern girls’ boarding school. As sexual tension and rivalries come to light, it quickly becomes clear that things won’t be ending well.
It’s a moody new trailer, giving us a good look at the atmospheric, character-driven thrills we can expect here. The cast is certainly strong, with Nicole Kidman looking particularly strong as the vengeful head of the school. Count us in.
Coppola has also written the screenplay, an adaptation of the 1966 Southern Gothic novel written by Thomas P. Cullinan. Clint Eastwood inhabited the role of the soldier in the 1971 film of the same name.
The Beguiled, also staring Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, Emma Howard, Oona Laurence, Angourie Rice and Addison Riecke, will open in the US on June 30 and will arrive in Australia sometime in July.
