The first trailer has been released for The Book of Life, an animated film inspired by the Mexican holiday “Day of the Dead.” Produced by Guillermo del Toro, The Book of Life tells the story of Manolo (Diego Luna), a young man who is set on an adventure that spans three fantastical worlds as the Gods wager on whether or not he’ll win the heart of Maria (Zoe Saldana). This looks great, with a unique and lively animated style that should provide a lot of fun. We’re digging that this places a spin on a Mexican tradition, which sees family and friends praying for and remembering friends and family members who have died. There’s an impressive voice cast too, including Channing Tatum, Hector Elizondo, Danny Trejo, Ice Cube, and Placido Domingo.
