Shudder has released the official trailer for The Boy Behind the Door, a tense-as-hell thriller that’s been receiving rave early reviews.
The film tells of Bobby (Lonnie Chavis) and Kevin (Ezra Dewey), two 12-year-old best friends who are kidnapped while on their way home from school. Bobby manages to break free and decides to stay in the vicinity, attempting navigates the dark halls and go unnoticed to rescue his still-trapped friend. When things couldn’t appear more dire, another stranger arrives – and the agreement they have with the kidnapper suggests certain doom for Kevin. Bobby… no pressure.
This effective-looking nail-biter has been scoring with critics thus far, drawing up a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score with 27 reviews at the time of writing. Indeed, the trailer shows off an atmospheric, well-crafted cat-and-mouse pic with what look like strong turns from its two young players. Looking forward to it.
This one is directed and written by David Charbonier and Justin Powell, who also had horror film The Djinn (also starring Dewey) released in the US this year. Powell also has a number of high-profile credits as post production coordinator, including La La Land, the Hunger Games movies and Deepwater Horizon.
The Boy Behind the Door, also starring Kristin Bauer van Straten, Scott Michael Foster and Micah Hauptman, will be streaming on Shudder from July 29th.
